The book we are currently reading for our book club is Father Joe, the Man Who Saved My Soul, by Tony Hendra. I love this book! It is going to end up being on my list of favorite books. It is auto biographical. It is a book that will get you thinking and reflecting about your own life, your faith, and your existence.
Father Joe is a Benedictine Monk whom Tony met when he was a teenage boy. Tony was sent to Father Joe for what Tony assumed was pennance after being caught in an adulterous act. Much to Tony's surprise, Father Joe welcomes Tony and treats him with loving, kindness and forgiveness. This treatment by father Joe leaves a lasting impression on Tony. This begins the start of a beautiful, long lasting relationship.
The story is entertaining, enlightening and a good read. I highly recommend it as a must read.

Kudos to Dicks Sporting Goods On Good Customer Service
I have to admit when Dicks first opened a few years back, I didn't expect much, especially with respect to their customer service. Their stores are so large and I'm sure they have a big turn around with employees, but I have had very good customer service when I shop at Dicks.
I was in Dicks last week to buy a new pair of running shoes. I have been training for a half marathon run that takes place in early September. My left knee started to give me trouble and someone suggested that I should get new shoes. It had also been suggested to me by my doctor that I might need shoes with more support. I had worn New Balance Trail/Running shoes in the past and have had a lot of success training in them.
I had a good idea what I wanted before I went to Dicks. I was pleasantly surprised when I was greeted by a shoe salesman asking me if I needed any help. I explained to him what I my problem was and what I was seeking. He made several suggestions and then he brought out a pair of Aesics, which is a brand I wear and he brought out a pair of New Balance trail/running shoes that were last season. The trail shoes were a perfect fit and because they were last season, they were only $50. I was so happy to have found the shoes I needed and at a price I felt wasn't breaking my bank account. I would have bought two pairs, because it is always good to alternate shoes, but that was the last pair in my size.
So Kudos to Dick's Sporting Goods in the Mall at Robinson. Your customer service was excellent! Iwill return in the near future. I have two kids who will be playing soccer this fall and will need all the gear.

Sea Pines, HHI - - Great Place for Family Vacations
If you are looking for a great place to vacation with your family, you can't go wrong with Sea Pines in Hilton Head Island.
Sea Pines is a private resort (aka plantation) located on Hilton Head Island. It has 15 miles of bike trails, a golf course, 2 private beaches, 3 shopping destinations (Harbour Town, Sea Pines Plaza and South Beach), a trolley system (free to Sea Pine residents), pools and tennis courts. There is free entertainment at both Harbour Town and South Beach. Harbour Town has its own light house which you can tour. Once you get to the top (114 steps) you have an amazing view of the harbor! There is something to do for all ages in Sea Pines. In fact, we rarely leave the resort except for when we need to buy groceries.
We just came back from our week vacation in Hilton Head. This is our 7th year vacationing there. Some might say that is boring to go to the same place every summer, but the kids love it and so do we. Our son, Stefano is 14 and he has a great time hanging out with his family. We bike every day, sometimes twice a day. We go to the beach and pool every day. We eat out at the numerous restaurants. We have a ball the whole time we are there.
If you are a runner like I am, Sea Pines is ideal for running. In fact, I am in the middle of training for a half marathon. I had an 8 mile long run I was scheduled to do while on vacation. I did closer to 9 miles on the beach. The sand is well packed and is ideal for running and even biking on. In fact, one evening we took the kids for a 5 mile bike ride on the beach. It was great! Try doing that in Ocean City or Rehoboth...it's not possible.
Speaking of bikes, bike rentals are cheap in Hilton Head. We paid $25/week per bike. The bike rental establishments are quite accommodating. Many will deliver the bikes to your hotel. They have bike accommodations for all ages. There are toddler seats, trailers, tag along, bikes with training wheels. There is really no excuse for not biking while in Hilton Head, unless of course you are handicapped.
I'm sure there are other great resorts in Hilton Head. I am partial to Sea Pines because it has so much to offer. I have to say it is the best place we have gone to for our family vacations and I highly recommend it!

Sprinkles
My kids and I are visiting my sis in Potomac, Maryland. She lives within walking distance to Potomac Village. We took advantage of the beautiful weather yesterday and walked to the village for coffee and ice cream. There is a great, little, quaint ice cream shop called "Sprinkles".
Sprinkles is a tiny, claustrophobic inducing ice cream parlor located just around the corner from the hardware store. When I say tiny, I am not kidding, but their small retail space pales in comparison to their excellent, friendly customer service, their decent portions (they are a little pricey) and their plethora of options.
My daughter always orders the same thing no matter where we go...chocolate ice cream with rainbow sprinkles. I ordered the kid's size for her and she could not finish it. My son and nephew ordered the Oreo sundae and my sis ordered a non-fat yogurt ice cream. I was holding out for a Starbucks (located practically next door) lite Mocha Java chip, but I didn't pass up the opportunity to sample the other selections. I must say the ice cream was excellent, the yogurt was refreshing and it is hard to mess up anything that has Oreos in it.
Sprinkles also offers teas and coffees and much more. I highly recommend it. It is a great place to go with family and friends, or when you are feeling the need to treat yourself to something delicious and decadent.
Here is a map of their location:
